Carlos Antunes

Carlos Antunes is an assistant professor in Geospatial Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL), specializing in Geodesy, Hydrography and Sea Level Variation; he graduated in Geographical Engineering from FCUL in 1990 and received his doctorate in Physical Geodesy in Austria from the Technical University of Graz in 2004; Researcher at the Dom Luiz Institute, he is dedicated to the study of sea level variation as a consequence of climate change and its impacts on coastal zones, in terms of assessing vulnerability and coastal risk, and also to studying the correlation between economic growth and global warming. He has more than 30 scientific articles in indexed international journals, around 70 guest lectures and more than 70 communications at national and 5 international conferences. Coordinator of the SNMPortugal.pt project (www.snmportugal.pt) on assessing the coastal vulnerability of mainland Portugal to sea level rise. He was part of the FCUL team studying and analyzing the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in Portugal, as a data analyst. External author of opinion articles in the AZUL section of the Portuguese newspaper PÚBLICO. Senior member of the College of Geographical Engineering of the Order of Engineers, elected member of the National and Regional Councils of the same College between 2006 and 2016. Member of recognized merit of the National Maritime Authority’s Public Maritime Domain Commission.
